Day out at Barkway Golf Club

When Lea-Ann discovered that one of our residents used to be a keen golfer, she tried to keep his hobby going for him with practice putting sessions in the garden. These however didn’t seem quite enough as, after speaking with his family, it was clear that Patrick had been pretty good. Therefore, she contacted Barkway Golf Club to ask if it might be possible for her to bring Patrick to have a look around the club and maybe to play a hole or two.

Barkway Golf Club were more than willing to help and Paul Milne-Smith came to the care home to meet with Patrick and then arranged with Lea-Ann for him to come and play 9 holes. After a few hesitant shots, it all started coming back to Patrick and he played some great holes, there was a lot of laughter as well as some quite serious competition. Lea-Ann said, “We can’t thank Barkway Golf Club and Paul enough for their support. Whilst Patrick lives with dementia, it is still possible, as today shows to have wonderful moments every day.”
